In Glennon Doyle’s book, Untamed, she mentions a knowing that comes to her when she just knows what her next action should be. When I read that, I thought, how does that work? So, I started investigating. I wanted to know how to get in touch with that knowing part of myself. I wanted to see for myself if it was real or not. I started reading everything I could find about intuition, taking classes, doing rituals, and journaling exercises.
I became determined to tame my Ego and live authentically, with my Higher Self as my guide. I wanted to hone my intuition. I used to think that the mind held intuition, but I was way too in my head about everything. In my head, I can keep questioning things forever and never get to any conclusion.
I learned to get out of my head by practicing meditation and learning about somatic therapy. Anne Berube has a beautiful book, Be, Feel, Think, Do, about connecting with one’s feelings and learning to be. I got pretty good at tuning into my inner knowing, but I was not as good at following what it told me. I didn’t realize that tuning in to my intuition would be the easy part. We are all extremely innately intuitive. What we need to learn is how to trust ourselves again.
You know what you need to do. It probably doesn’t make much logical sense, but go with it. Be flexible. Flow with the Universe, wherever it takes you. If you’re unsure, you can try journaling exercises to get in touch with yourself.
Do you have the urge to make music? Learn a new language? Drive a motorcycle? Follow that urge and try it, even if it’s scary. Surrender to the divine inspiration, whatever it tells you. It may even seem obscure, but sometimes that is the very thing that will lead you to fulfil your desires.
Taking concrete steps to follow your intuition is linked to following your inspiration because intuition literally inspires you. The Artists Way, By Julia Cameron, is about creativity, but no other single book has helped me get in tune with myself and my intuition more. I can’t recommend it highly enough.
In creative pursuits and life, when we surrender to Spirit, the truest and most profound things are manifest on this Earth. I encourage you to surrender to your inspirations and see where it takes you. When you are in the flow and in tune with the Universe, you are guided by forces beyond the physical world. Because we are cocreating with the Universe, that is when the most beautiful music is made, where the highest purposes are expressed.
Now, when I’m figuring out what to do next, I often start with a goal that I feel intuitively led to. I meditate and journal to ensure that my Spirit is leading me, not my Ego. If I want to do something because I think I should, or I want to impress someone, for example, I know my goal is Ego-driven.
I follow what feels good to my body and my energy. I intend to achieve an aligned goal, and I invite my Spirit Guides and my intuition to guide me. Then, I stay open, committed, and curious. I trust and believe and do what feels the most right and true at each moment.
Although I start with a goal and take steps toward it, I don’t attach to the outcome. I trust that my intuition is guiding me to my highest good. I surrender to the process. Surrendering is not passive; my actions are guided by something higher than myself.
Live your Magical Life 😊
